Describe the characteristics of the world’s main wines, and talk about the main factors affecting style, quality and price. This will enable them to advise the management of different types of establishments, answer customers’ questions in full knowledge of the facts, and choose the right wines for different situations.

The WSET Level 3 Award in Spirits course spans 7 days (46 hours), including a 1.5-hour pre-course video call, 6.5 days of tuition, a half-day (4-hour) exam preparation session, and a half-day (2.5-hour) exam.
The WSET Level 3 Diploma in Spirits aims to provide a detailed knowledge of spirits from around the world and develop the tasting skills necessary to accurately describe and evaluate a spirit. You’ll gain an in-depth theoretical understanding of the techniques used in spirits production, from raw material processing to post-distillation operations. By combining tasting with the application of theoretical knowledge, you’ll learn to confidently explain why spirits look and taste the way they do, and how and why they differ from one another.
A minimum of 80 hours of preparation is required

- Describe the typical style of the other global spirits mentioned.
- Indicate the meaning of legally defined terms and other commonly used labeling terms.
- Indicate the main production choices defined by law and/or optional that are made during the production of other designated world spirits.
module 4. Describe the main characteristics of selected international spirits and use the description to identify the quality level of a spirit, giving reasons for this, and its category.
- Describe the main characteristics of selected international spirits using the WSET Level 3 systematic approach to spirits tasting®.

Certification validation
- Candidates must obtain a minimum mark of 55% correct in each test to obtain the diploma.
- Candidates have 2 hours 30 min for all 2 tests:
For theoretical exam Unit 1 (Modules 1 to 3) 2h00:
- Part 1: 50-question MCQ designed to assess knowledge and understanding of Unit 1 as a whole.
- Part 2: Questionnaire requiring short written answers. This part consists of six questions and will assess the application of knowledge throughout the unit.
For tasting test Unit 2 (Module 4) 30 min:
The tasting test is part of Module 4 and consists of two blind tastings of spirits. It assesses the candidate’s ability to accurately describe a spirit, identify its quality level and justify this assessment, and identify its category.
To pass the tasting test, candidates must obtain a minimum score of 55%.
The results
The results of the examination are published by the WSET Awards, according to the following procedure.
– The WSET Awards communicates a general list of all scores to the APPs, who can then send the results to their candidates by e-mail. This list is sent out within eight weeks of receipt of the copies by the WSET Awards.
– The WSET Awards sends letters and certificates to the APPs, who are responsible for forwarding them to their candidates.

This qualification will facilitate the professional evaluation of spirits in terms of style, quality and price. It offers in-depth knowledge of these products, a necessary complement to professional skills, particularly when it comes to choosing spirits for the on-trade, retail or spirits production sectors.
At the end of this training course, trainees will have reinforced confidence in this area of competence, enabling them to be more at ease in their contacts and sales approach.
